In many circles Apple Cider Vinegar (or ACV in Hairnista lingo) is widely known for it's many healing properties. At the first sign of a scratchy throat or an upset stomach it is the first thing I reach for. Little did I know it's been sitting in my cabinet and would become an integral part of my hair journey. During one of my favorite past times (scouring my fave hair board LHCF), I came across a very enlightening thread touting the benefits of ACV for your hair. According to many ladies it is a great alternative to harsh clarifying shampoos to remove buildup from your hair, and it also soothes your hair's cuticles--which is super-important for curly girls everywhere. For those of you with scalp issues like seasonal dandruff or dry scalp it is also a lifesaver. Determined to find out for myself I whipped up a quick rinse per the board's info:
ACV Rinse
1/2 cup of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
1 quart of water
Mix and pour over your hair after you shampoo
I loved the results! My hair was softer and tangles were almost nonexistent. I do this about once a month or more if I've been heavy handed with my products. Since the ACV closes your cuticle, be sure to deep condition with heat so that your conditioner will penetrate the hair shaft. Feel free to do this as often as needed. Some people do this rinse weekly with great results, and others have tweaked it and use it after conditioning their hair. Hairnistas, none of this is rocket science so just jump right in. No matter what your hair type, product buildup can happen, and who doesn't want soft, shiny hair?
